Suspect arrested after four-year-old girl found raped in Yangon car park


YANGON: A four-year-old girl was found in a situation where she had been raped in Yangon, and a perpetrator has been arrested, according to an official from the Survival Aid Society.

The arrest was made around 7 pm on September 21 in Thingangyun Township, as notified by the Botahtaung Police Station via phone call, the official said.

"The police station called to inform me. They said they arrested the perpetrator around 7 pm yesterday, September 21, and asked me to post an update on social media, which I did. They said the arrest was made in Thingangyun Township. No further details were given; they just asked to post that an arrest had been made," the official stated.

The official added that the four-year-old victim is currently still receiving medical treatment at the Children's Hospital.

"Currently, the child is still receiving treatment at the Children's Hospital. According to the doctors' confirmation, it is a case of rape," the official said.

Regarding the incident, it was learned that on September 18, around 2 pm, a four-year-old girl was found with blood on her clothes and legs in a car park west of 48th Street, between Anawrahta Road and Maha Bandula Road in Botahtaung Township, Yangon. She was subsequently examined and sent to the hospital via the township medical officer.

"The Survival Aid Society posted on social media: 'Around 14:00 in the afternoon, we received a report of a four-year-old girl found in the car park west of 48th Street, between Anawrahta and Maha Bandula Roads. Upon arrival, blood was seen on her dress and legs. After further reporting, the township medical officer and team arrived for examination and suspected she had been sexually assaulted. They instructed her to be sent to Yangon General Hospital. She was transported by a Survival Aid Society vehicle and, following transfer arrangements from Yangon General Hospital, was further assisted to Yangon Children's Hospital. Relevant authorities and parents arrived, and she was handed over to them.'"
