Brunei man fined over RM52,500 for illegal cigarette possession


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): A local man was fined BND16,090 (RM52,500) or 13 months’ imprisonment in default by the Tutong Magistrate’s Court after he was found guilty of possessing 16 cartons and 18 sticks of cigarettes without a valid permit.

Mohammad Shahrol Roslani, 22, was charged before Magistrate Normazdina Md Maskub for committing an offence under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order, 2006.

He was apprehended on April 16 night in Kampong Keriam by Tutong District police personnel along with enforcement officers from the Commercial and Enforcement Division of the Royal Customs and Excise Department.

The cigarettes were ordered to be confiscated and handed over to the government for disposal. A mobile phone was also seized. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
