Fourteen out of 17 Myanmar prisoners pass university entrance exam with honours


YANGON: According to the Myanmar Examinations Department, a total 17 prisoners passed the 2025 university entrance exam. Of this number, 14 of them passed with distinction.

In Yangon region, 10 students from Insein (Central Prison Department) passed the exam, including one with three honours, three with two honours, and four with one honour.

Similarly, out of the seven successful candidates from Central Prison (Mandalay), five were awarded three distinctions and one was awarded two distinctions.

The results of the university entrance examination held in March 2025 and the retaken results of the university entrance examination held in June 2025 for regions and states affected by the Mandalay earthquake were announced simultaneously nationwide Sunday (July 27) morning.

The announcement said that out of 207,898 people who sat for the 2025 university entrance exam, 99,924 passed, giving a pass rate of 48.06 per cent.

In the 2024 university entrance exam, 128,820 students took the exam, of which 74,592 passed, with a success rate of 57.90 per cent.
