BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Universiti Brunei Darussalam student Siti Khaliysah Zahiah Dayinie has been selected as one of 100 youth volunteers for the eMpowering Youths Across Asean Programme: Cohort 5, an initiative aimed at equipping young people with the tools to drive change through social volunteerism and community engagement.
Dayinie departed for Bangkok, Thailand last Saturday (July 19).
The programme, a collaboration between the Maybank Foundation and the Asean Foundation, began with a series of online training sessions held in May and June. Participants will take part in an in-person orientation workshop from July 19 to 24 at Chulalongkorn University, followed by a two-week community project implementation phase from July 24 to August 6 in one of six Asean countries — Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam.
All travel, accommodation, meal and volunteering costs are fully sponsored by the Asean Foundation.
Launched in 2018 in conjunction with Asean Day, the programme has so far empowered 382 youth volunteers, partnered with 31 civil society organisations and social enterprises, and positively impacted over 89,000 people across the region.
The initiative also includes a Regional Capacity Building Workshop to support participants and alumni in designing and executing sustainable community projects, while fostering mentorship and regional collaboration among Asean youth leaders. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
