Huge drug shipment weighing more than 200kg seized near major highway in northern Laos


VIENTIANE (Xinhua): The Lao police in northern Bokeo province have seized a large shipment of drugs and arrested a suspect following a major bust involving a tanker truck traveling from Huayxay district in Bokeo province to Luang Namtha province.

According to the Lao Security News on Thursday, local authorities intercepted the truck on July 7.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 1,920 bags containing 1,920kg of ketamine, 1,998,000 methamphetamine pills weighing over 199 kg, 15 kg of ecstasy powder, and 51kg of heroin.

The driver, a 26-year-old Lao farmer from Xieng Khuang province, was taken into custody.

The authorities are continuing investigations to identify and arrest additional suspects connected to the drug trafficking network. - Xinhua
