Over 14 kg of heroin seized in central Myanmar


YANGON: Myanmar authorities have seized 148.797 kg of heroin in central Myanmar's Mandalay region, the state-owned daily Myanma Alinn reported on Thursday (July 10).

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Taung Taw village in Kyaukse township on June 22 and confiscated the drugs, the report said.

According to the investigation, the heroin was being transported from Mongyai township of Shan state to Mandalay region, it added.

The seized drugs are worth over 3 billion kyats (about US$1.42 million) on the black market, it said.

The suspects connected to the case have been charged under the country's laws, and further investigations are ongoing, it added. - Xinhua
