Brunei briefing highlights indicators of human trafficking


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: In the continuous efforts to enhance understanding and awareness of Trafficking in Persons (TIP), the Human Trafficking Investigation Unit (USPM) under the Criminal Investigation Department at the Royal Brunei Police Force conducted a roadshow for 40 individuals comprising Penghulu Mukim and village heads as well as Village Consultative Councils and Temburong District Office.

The briefing’s goal was to provide in-depth knowledge and a more detailed understanding of how to identify the elements and indicators of potential victims involved in human trafficking crimes.

The briefing covered various topics, including the functions and roles of the USPM. It also featured case studies of human trafficking cases that met all the criteria for human trafficking and had been investigated by the USPM since its establishment on August 16, 2011. USPM officers and members delivered the briefing.

Among the presentation in the briefing was the information that was shared – awareness of the crime of human trafficking is very important in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

It was noted that through the delivery of clear information and understanding to grassroots leaders and related agencies, efforts to combat such crime can be implemented more effectively.

Leading the participants was Legislative Council member Sulaiman Nasir, Village Head of Kampong Labu Estate and Piasau-Piasau as well as the Acting Penghulu of Zone 1 Mukim, Temburong District. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
