Man steals from grandfather’s garden hut, jailed with accomplice

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A man who broke into his grandfather’s garden hut and stole tools with an accomplice has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday (May 19).

Zulehzsan Suhaimi, 33, and Rozei Alihasin, 28, both unemployed, admitted to jointly committing the theft on May 9, at Kampong Bukit Sibut in Tutong.

The court heard that Zulehzsan and Rozei had targeted the garden hut belonging to Zulehzsan’s grandfather.

Zulehzsan climbed over the locked gate using tyres and entered the compound, while Rozei kept watch outside. Zulehzsan took a yellow plastic basket, a metal cutter, a pipe-cutting saw, and placed them into a green recycled bag, which he then passed to Rozei. The duo stashed the bag in a nearby bush.

The theft was discovered the following day when the victim visited the garden hut and noticed missing items. After a tip-off from his cousin, he found the stolen items hidden in nearby bushes and reported the matter to police.

Both men were arrested shortly after and confessed to the theft during police investigations. They also have prior criminal records.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurulatikah Husaini prosecuted the case before Magistrate Mazdina Maskub. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
