Murder suspect shoots cop serving arrest warrant in South Cotabato, Philippines

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (Philippines): A wanted person shot and injured the police chief of Norala town, South Cotabato province during the serving of a warrant of arrest on Wednesday (April 16) morning, police said.

Injured was Police Major Jose Golez, Norala police station chief, who was leading a team of law enforcers in serving a warrant of arrest at about 10am against Jobert Felongco who was facing murder charges.

Golez said Felongco, upon seeing the lawmen, pulled a caliber.45 pistol and opened fire on them.

The unsuspecting town police chief was hit on his left arm.

Felongco, 39, of Purok Bliss, Barangay Poblacion, Norala, is now facing more charges for frustrated murder, illegal possession of firearm, and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 after policemen found suspected meth in his possession.

Police also found bullets, two fragmentation grenades, and paraphernalia for using meth.

Felongco is now detained at Norala municipal lockup cell while Golez is recuperating at the Norala District Hospital. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
