'Come and join the party', Thai police guarantee tourists' safety during Songkran festival

BANGKLOK/KOTA BHARU (Bernama): Thai police have assured tourists, including Malaysians, of their safety during the Songkran festival.

Deputy chief of the Thai Tourist Police (Region Seven), Lieutenant-Colonel Sakarin Anusamansakul, said authorities have enhanced security measures to ensure there are no untoward incidents during this year's celebration.

"Tourists, including those from Malaysia, visiting southern Thailand need not worry as additional security measures have been taken.

"These include increasing monitoring, while government agencies, including the health office and district offices, have been mobilised to assist tourists," he said when contacted on Saturday.

He said authorities, including military forces and volunteers, have been deployed to control traffic to reduce road accidents.
