PHNOM PENH: Cambodia on Wednesday (March 26) celebrated the third National Science, Technology and Innovation Day with the launch of four innovation initiatives and a forum on artificial intelligence (AI).
The event brought together scientists, researchers, industry leaders, and development partners, including Malaysia, Singapore, China, Japan, South Korea and the United Nations, to foster collaboration and accelerate the kingdom's shift toward a knowledge-based economy.
Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea said science, technology and innovation are indispensable for Cambodia's targeted and long-term vision to become a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive high-income country by 2050.
"Investing in human capital in key areas such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education can not be delayed and requires high attention," he said at the event.
Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Hem Vanndy said talented human resources are critical to building a robust science, technology and innovation ecosystem.
"Technology holds immense potential to drive economic growth, enhance public services, and tackle societal challenges," he said.
"However, it also presents complex issues, such as infrastructure needs, ethical frameworks, and investment in human capital that must be addressed to ensure responsible and inclusive development," he added. - Xinhua
