PATTANI, (Thailand): (Bernama) -- The Fourth Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC 4) has organised a halal traditional cooking competition in Southern Thailand as part of efforts to foster closer ties among local residents during Ramadan.

Director of the ISOC 4 Peace Centre, Major General Chalermchai Sitinual, said the competition involved three southern Thai provinces-Pattani, Narathiwat, and Yala.

According to him, the unique lifestyle of the southern Thai community, rich in cultural diversity and renowned traditional cuisine at both national and international levels, must be preserved.

"Competitions like this help instill a spirit of cooperation and strengthen social bonds, especially among Muslims and people from various backgrounds.

"We also want to highlight halal cuisine, particularly Khao Mok Khai (Chicken Biryani), which is one of the traditional dishes of the local Malay community," he told Bernama on Thursday (March 20).

He added that 15 teams competed at the regional level, with only the best team from each province advancing to the final round to vie for the title of the best traditional dish across the three regions.

This year’s competition was won by a team from Pattani, while the second and third places went to representatives from Yala and Narathiwat, respectively. - Bernama
