‘Sir, you can’t park here’: Photos, video of car stuck in walkway in Toa Payoh, Singapore go viral

SINGAPORE: The unusual sight of a car stuck between the pillars of a sheltered walkway with both its front wheels off the ground has lit up social media, inspiring some netizens to come up with zingers.

Photos and videos of the accident were posted on Monday (March 17) on several social media pages focused on incidents on Singapore’s roads.

A related post on Roads.sg drew more than 500 reactions, 178 comments and 378 shares as at noon on March 18. A video on the SG Road Vigilante – SGRV Facebook page drew more than 86,000 views.

In these visuals, a grey car is lodged between the concrete pillars of a walkway leading from a multi-storey carpark to a multi-purpose hall, with debris scattered on the walkway.

When contacted, the police said they were alerted to the accident at Block 84C Lorong 2 Toa Payoh at about 3pm on March 17.

The driver, a 55-year-old man, had minor injuries but refused to be taken to hospital, the police said.

Netizens expressed bewilderment at how the accident happened, but the creative juices of some went into overdrive.

“No choice, private-hire app indicated pick-up point at HDB lift lobby,” said one commenter.

“Oops, sorry, thought it was a drive-thru,” said another.
