South Korean woman stabs hospital security guard 'for lying'

SEOUL: A woman in her 30s is under investigation for allegedly stabbing a security guard at a local hospital, believing that he had lied to her about whether her acquaintance had been admitted to the facility, Suwon Nambu Police Station said Friday (March 14).

According to officials, the suspect wounded a security guard in his 40s in the lobby of Aju University Hospital in the city of Suwon, 30 kilometers south of Seoul, at around 8.50pm on Thursday.

The victim sustained non-fatal injuries to his head and arms and is receiving medical treatment.

The suspect was not intoxicated at the time of her arrest, which occurred moments after the crime.

The suspect did not know the victim and was checking to see whether an acquaintance of hers had been admitted to the hospital.

She asked the security guard if her acquaintance was at the hospital and stabbed him when he said the person was not there.

The suspect told police that she attacked the victim out of anger because she believed he had lied. Police later confirmed that the acquaintance was indeed not at the hospital.

Officials are mulling whether to request a warrant to detain the suspect during the ongoing criminal investigation. - The Korea Herald/ANN
