Chinese who killed cat in the Philippines to be deported for overstaying

MANILA: A Chinese man who caught the attention of authorities for kicking a cat which later died of its injuries is set to be deported for overstaying.

In a statement, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said that Jiang Shan (pic) was apprehended on March 10 in front of his residence in Barangay Palanan.

Immigration records showed that the 32-year-old Jiang arrived in the Philippines as a tourist in May 2023 but failed to extend his visa after it expired in September that same year.

When officers arrested him, he could not present proper documentation, leading to his arrest. He has since been transferred to the BI facility in Bicutan, Taguig City, while facing deportation proceedings.

Jiang went viral after he was captured on a CCTV camera kicking a cat, which later died at Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City on Jan. 4. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
