Three Chinese nationals, suspected to have murdered teenage girl from Phnom Penh, charged with premeditated murder


PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): Three Chinese nationals believed to be members of a gang and suspected of killing a Cambodian teenager in a savage way have been charged with murder.

The police had reported recently that there was an investigation going on for murder after they found a Cambodian teenager, naked and bound, in a shallow grave in Phnom Penh, have been charged with murder.

A spokesperson for the Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s prosecution office on the afternoon of March 7, 2025, confirmed that in the case of three Chinese nationals, behind the murder of a Cambodian woman.

The spokesman said they killed her and buried the body because the victim knew their secret and the prosecution has now decided to charge the three above-mentioned defendants with premeditated murder under Article 200 of the Criminal Code.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police, in cooperation with Vietnamese authorities on March 5, 2025. arrested the ring leader of the gang, Yang Kaixin, a 26-year-old male, of Chinese nationality.

Police had already arrested two Chinese nationals in connection with the heinous murder -- Chen Cong, 30 years old, Chinese (the victim’s boyfriend), and Li Hao Hao, a Chinese male, 34 years old.

The mother of the victim told police on Saturday that her daughter had been working at a casino in Sihanoukville.

About two weeks ago, the victim phoned her mother and informed her that she had moved to Phnom Penh with her Chinese boyfriend.

After questioning, the two confessed that they were indeed involved in the death of the victim on the night of February 27, 2025, and named Yang as their the accomplice.

It is believed that the gang operated an extortion operation and had previously kidnapped a Chinese national who was a Cambodian woman, held her captive, tortured her, and successfully extorted money.

The victim was then released in exchange for a condition that the victim not leave the group or report to the authorities that they were a criminal group.

It is believed that the teenager was murdered to keep her quiet about the gang’s criminal activities.

Currently, the three accused, who are still being investigated by the investigating judge, are being detained in a prison in the capital. - Khmer Times
