Man charged with importing 154 replica guns including toy rifles and pistols without permit

SINGAPORE: A Singaporean man was charged with importing over 150 replica guns, including toy rifles and toy pistols, into Singapore without a permit.

Ng Jie Sheng, 44, was handed the charge on Thursday (March 6).

Under the Regulation of Imports and Exports Regulations, police approval is required for the importation of replica guns.

According to court documents, Ng allegedly imported 84 sets of toy rifles, 70 sets of toy pistols, 10 sets of toy bullet launchers and four boxes of rubber bullets and accessories.

He allegedly did so between March 14, 2023, and May 11, 2023.

According to the court system, Ng has indicated that he intends to plead guilty and engage a defence lawyer. His case was adjourned to March 27.

The police received information regarding the sales of replica guns on an e-commerce platform on May 11, 2023.

After identifying the seller, they raided his home in Race Course Lane around two weeks later, the police said in a statement on March 5. Over 150 replica guns and related accessories were seized.

Those found guilty of importing replica guns without a permit on the first conviction can be fined up to $100,000 or up to three times the value of the goods, or jailed for up to two years, or both.

Repeat offenders can be fined up to $200,000, or four times the value of the goods, or jailed for up to three years, or both. - The Straits Times/ANN
