MOSCOW, March 1 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti): A Moscow court will hear Google's appeal on March 4 against an 8 billion-ruble (US$89.5 million) fine, which was imposed for failing to pay a 4 billion-ruble fine, originally issued for not settling a 2 billion-ruble penalty ordered by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) for violating Russian antitrust laws, according to court records seen by RIA Novosti.
In January, Google was fined 8 billion rubles for failing to pay a previous administrative fine, the documents said.
In summer 2023, a Moscow court imposed a fine of 4 million rubles on Google, for failure to pay the penalty for violating Russia's antitrust laws.
In February 2022, FAS found Google guilty of violating antitrust laws by applying "non-transparent, biased, and unpredictable" blocking rules against Google-owned video hosting YouTube users and demanded that the company eliminate the violation.
In July, the Russian agency imposed a turnover fine on Google exceeding two billion rubles.
Google unsuccessfully attempted to appeal the decision in arbitration courts. In the courts of general jurisdiction, the company seeks to cancel the fines imposed for non-payment of the original sanctions.
