SINGAPORE: A man abused the trust of his sexual partners when he secretly filmed the women having sex with him after he had blindfolded them.

He continued to do so despite being caught several times by one of the women who was his girlfriend at the time.

It was later discovered that he had also taken upskirt photos of his university coursemate in 2018.

On Wednesday (Feb 26), the 31-year-old man was sentenced to eight months and 12 weeks’ jail after pleading guilty to two charges of insulting the women’s modesty and two counts of voyeurism.

Six charges of voyeurism, where the man had recorded 10 upskirt videos of six unknown women from 2018 to 2021, were taken into consideration for his sentencing.

A gag order has been imposed to protect the identity of the women in the case.

Submissions made by the prosecution said the man is a serial offender who had targeted strangers, friends, sexual partners and even his own girlfriend over a period of three years.

The court heard that his girlfriend filed a police report in April 2021 to inform the authorities that she was worried the man had kept compromising videos of her on his phone.

She said she had caught him secretly filming her on several occasions after he blindfolded her while they were having sex. She had forced him to delete the videos on each occasion.

After starting investigations against the man in June 2021, the police seized a smartphone and external hard disk drive from the man.

Forensic examinations revealed there were at least 44 videos, ranging from upskirting to those of his partners, on both the devices.

The videos showed the man had recorded two upskirt videos of his university coursemate in 2018 by placing his phone under her skirt or dress, while she was sitting opposite him or walking past.

Between January and July 2020, he recorded himself having sex with a second woman, who was his then girlfriend, after blindfolding her. Four such videos were found in his possession.

He used the same method in June 2021 to record another woman, who was his colleague. The court heard that the pair were in a sexual relationship at the time. Seven such videos were found in his possession.

Anyone found guilty of insulting a woman’s modesty can be jailed for up to a year, fined, or both.

For each count of voyeurism, an offender can be jailed for up to two years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments. - The Straits Times/ANN
