Xi and Putin hold phone call on Ukraine war anniversary; peace may be near, state media says

BEIJING (Reuters/AFP): China’s President Xi Jinping spoke with his ally Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone on Monday (Feb 24), China’s state media reported, on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Xinhua news agency reported Xi as saying that “China is happy to see Russia and relevant parties make positive efforts to defuse” the crisis in Ukraine.
