Singapore updates electoral registers for public inspection ahead of upcoming general election

SINGAPORE: Singapore has completed updates to its list of eligible electors, with the revised registers open for public inspection from Saturday until Feb. 28, the Elections Department announced on Friday (Feb 14).

The updated registers include the names of all qualified electors as of Feb. 1. Singapore's citizens can check their personal details electronically or visit local service centers or overseas missions to verify if any updates or removals are necessary.

In January, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong directed the Registration Officer to revise the registers for public inspection ahead of the general election.

Additionally, the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee was established in January as a key step in preparing for the upcoming elections. The committee will assess the current electoral divisions and recommend any adjustments to constituency boundaries based on the latest electors' list.

In May 2024, Wong succeeded Lee Hsien Loong as prime minister after Lee's two-decade tenure. Wong will lead the ruling People's Action Party into the upcoming general election, which must take place by November 2025, though the specific date has yet to be determined. - Xinhua
