Hongkong Post has said it will continue to stop accepting items containing goods for the United States despite the country making a U-turn saying mail service will resume after suspending incoming parcels from the city and mainland China for half a day.
In a statement released on Thursday night, Hongkong Post said it would not accept US-bound goods until further notice.
“Hongkong Post has already started its communications with the US Postal Service, but there are still areas which require further clarifications, including the US’ requirement to impose tariffs [on the city],” a government spokesman said.

The administration also reiterated its strong objections to the tariffs and urged Washington to rectify its wrong move to avoid creating confusion and inconvenience to residents due to its policy changes.
The spokesman said the action was taken after the US postal authorities abruptly notified Hongkong Post on Wednesday that mail items containing goods destined for the country would not be shipped, effective immediately.
Later that day, the US Postal Service said it would continue to accept all global inbound mail and packages from China Post and Hongkong Post. It added that it and US customs were working on a mechanism to collect the extra tariffs imposed on the mainland and Hong Kong products to minimise disruptions to deliveries.
