Royal audiences for Malaysian Parliamentary Speaker in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin): Brunei King Hassanal Bolkiah received in audience Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malaysia Tan Sri Datuk Dr Johari Abdul at Istana Nurul Iman.

During the audience ceremony, His Majesty congratulated Malaysia’s leadership in its Chairmanship of Asean in 2025 as well as Johari assuming Presidency of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) this year.

Sultan Hassanal and Johari His Majesty also discussed on bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia, including cooperation between the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam and the Parliament of Malaysia, as well as regional and international issues.

Johari and the Malaysian delegation are in the country on a three-day working visit, as part of a series of visits to Asean Parliaments to discuss the Parliament of Malaysia’s preparations to chair the AIPA in this September.

The visit also aims to explore ways to strengthen collaboration between legislative institutions in Asean, including Brunei Darussalam.

Meanwhile, Brunei's Royal Highness Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office also received Johari in a separate audience ceremony at Qashr Al-Meezaan on Thursday.

Also present were Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly of Pahang Datuk Sri Sharkar Shamsudin; Member of Parliament for Bangi, Selangor Syahredzan Johan; Member of Parliament for Gopeng, Perak Tan Kar Hing; and Deputy High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the High Commission of Malaysia in Brunei Darussalam Nur Ezira Mahadi.

Brunei Speaker of the Legislative Council Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Rahman; Deputy Minister (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Mohd Riza Mohd Yunos; Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Dr Huraini Awang Hurairah were also present. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
