Traffic accidents kill 2,011, injure 5,576 people in Myanmar in 2024

YANGON: Traffic accidents killed 2,011 people and injured 5,576 others in Myanmar in 2024, according to data released by the Road Transport Administration Department on Wednesday (Jan 22).

The figures mark a decrease from the previous year, which saw 2,422 deaths and 6,583 injuries due to road accidents in 2023, the department said.

Yangon region reported the highest number of fatalities in road accidents in 2024, with 446 deaths, followed by Mandalay region with 274, and Shan state with 251, it said.

A total of 3,875 road incidents were recorded across the country in 2024, down from 4,772 in 2023, the data showed. - Xinhua
