Thousands displaced in Shan State as fighting intensifies in Myanmar

YANGON: On January 17, thousands of residents in Hsihseng were forced to flee their homes as fighting escalated in southern Shan State, according to reports.

The conflict erupted between the Pa-O National Organisation (PNO) and the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLA), displacing numerous communities.

Sources indicate that the PNO launched operations in the areas around Pin Ngo and Naung Kyaw villages with an estimated 500 troops, advancing towards Hphyikyut Village. The offensive reportedly triggered intense clashes near Hphyikyut Village, sparking violence in a valley between two mountains. As a result, residents were forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge in the surrounding mountainous forests. - Eleven Media/ANN
