Over 200,000 pilgrims visit Myanmar's famous Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in December

YANGON (Eleven Media Group/ANN): More than 200,000 pilgrims visited the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in December, local news outlets have reported on Friday.

The Buddha Pujaniya festival of the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda located in Kyaikto Township, Mon State is held from the full moon day of Thadingyut to the full moon day of Kasone and pilgrims from all over the area come here every day.

A total of 228,929 people visited the pagoda in December, according to the Ministry of Information.

In order to avoid danger and make a peaceful pilgrimage, the Board of Trustees of the pagoda and those in charge are ensuring the security, free accommodation, food and health care and 150 mountain climbing vehicles are run daily, and the number of people safe to rice on each vehicle and vehicle fares are arranged so that the pilgrims can ride easily.

Due to the large number of pilgrims, the famous places along the Kyaiktiyo Mountain, such as Moteso Taung, Crow's Mouth Cave, Kyauk Htat Gyi Pagoda and waterfalls, the restaurants along the pagoda square and souvenir shops are crowded with pilgrims.
