Myanmar Rohingya crisis: Bangladesh speaks of their plight on human rights day

NEW DELHI (Bernama): Bangladesh on Tuesday drew attention to the continuing plight of Myanmar's Rohingya people on Human Rights Day.

More than a million Rohingya refugees are living in Bangladesh after fleeing their native lands in the strife-torn country.

"We are particularly saddened to see that the enduring plight of the Rohingya people draws little attention," Bangladesh interim government Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus said in a statement.

He also raised serious concerns over Israel's ongoing savagery in Gaza and elsewhere in Palestine.

"We would be remiss if we let the ongoing barbaric oppression against the people of Palestine continue. The urgency for collective action towards a just, lasting, and peaceful solution for the people of Palestine has never been greater," Yunus said.

Human Rights Day is observed on Dec 10 to commemorate the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. - Bernama
