Singapore PM Lawrence Wong to meet Indonesian President Prabowo in Jakarta on Wednesday; set for vital trade talks

JAKARTA (Bernama): President Prabowo Subianto is set to host Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Wednesday (Nov 6) in a significant meeting to discuss key issues of mutual interest for both neighbouring countries and Asean, according to local media reports.

"The issues to be discussed are currently being refined by both countries through various relevant ministries and agencies,” said Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia.

Rolliansyah said the leaders’ meeting will be preceded by a meeting at the foreign minister level on Nov 5.

According to the report, Prabowo is also scheduled to embark on his first overseas working visit next week, which will include attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Peru from November 13 to 16 and the G20 Summit in Brazil on November 18 and 19.

Regarding BRICS, Rolliansyah said Indonesia is currently classified as an Interested Country, indicating its desire to join, and that there are three status categories it must go through before becoming a member.

Based on the guidelines among BRICS members, he said the membership process includes first, Interested Country; second, Prospective Member; and third, Invited Member.

Indonesia has expressed interest in joining BRICS in its national statement at the recent BRICS Plus Summit in Kazan, Russia, and the application process for membership has begun. - Bernama
