Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is due to visit Hong Kong next month to receive an honorary doctorate along with film star Tony Leung Chiu-wai and two renowned scholars.
In an email sent to the students at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and seen by the Post, the institution said it would confer honorary doctorates on Huang, Leung, Nobel laureate Michael Levitt and American mathematician David Mumford in recognition of their distinguished accomplishments and contributions on November 23.
Huang will be given an honorary Phd in engineering, while Leung will receive a doctorate of humanities. Levitt and Mumford will both receive doctorates of science.

Huang is the co-founder, president and CEO of Nvidia, a chip company that makes graphics processing units (GPUs) and which recently dethroned tech giant Apple as the world’s most valuable company following a record-setting stock rally.
Born on February 17, 1963, in Tainan, Taiwan, Huang moved to the United States as a child and later earned degrees in electrical engineering at Oregon State University and Stanford University.
Under his leadership, Nvidia has become a leader in the fields of gaming, artificial intelligence and data centres.
Huang is also known for his philanthropic efforts, including significant donations to educational institutions.
Leung is a highly acclaimed Hong Kong actor. He has won numerous awards for his performances in both film and television. His career began in the early 1980s after he passed the training courses of TVB, a major television broadcaster in Hong Kong.
As one of Asia’s most successful and internationally recognized actors, he has won many international acting prizes, including the Cannes Film Festival award for Best Actor for his performance In the Mood for Love in 2000.
Levitt is a distinguished biophysicist and computational biologist. Born in 1947 in Pretoria, South Africa, he is currently a professor at Stanford University and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2013 for his work on multiscale models for complex chemical systems.
David Mumford is a renowned mathematician born in 1937 in West Sussex, England. He is best known for his work in algebraic geometry and has made significant contributions to the field.
