BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Tourism Malaysia Brunei is hoping that there will be a continuous growth in the number of Brunei tourist arrivals to Malaysia, setting a new height of 1.3 million by the end of 2024.

From January to August this year alone, the number of Brunei tourist arrivals to Malaysia has reached 785,548, which has nearly surpassed last year’s total, recorded at 811,833.

The hope of continuous growth and achieving a record setting number of arrivals from Brunei to Malaysia was shared by Director of Tourism Malaysia Brunei Hazrina Azman in an interview on the sidelines of the prize presentation ceremony for the winners of Explore Malaysia IG Reel Quiz on Tuesday (Oct 29).

"We are hopeful that we can reach the target of 1.3 million Brunei arrivals to Malaysia this year.

"We have been busy promoting Malaysia through various programmes, collaborations with airlines, travel agents, corporate companies, media and influencers to promote destinations other than Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, such as Putrajaya, Perak, Penang and Kelantan.

"Malaysia has a lot to offer and each state has its own unique attractions.

"We hope this year, such collaboration and extensive publicity through the media will entice more Bruneians to explore Malaysia."

She added, "Brunei has consistently ranked in the top 10 for contributing to tourist arrivals in Malaysia.

"Therefore, Brunei visitors are very important to Malaysia and a continuous promotional effort is crucial to sustain and exceed the arrival target."

For 2025, she shared, "Malaysia will be the host for the Asean summit which will also contribute to the number of tourist arrivals.

"At the same time, we will also usher ‘Visit Malaysia Year 2026’ where there will be a showcase of exciting events and happenings in Malaysia for everyone to enjoy.

"So plan ahead and lakastah ke Malaysia." - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
