VIENTIANE: The Lao edition of Chinese President Xi Jinping's book on poverty relief "Up and Out of Poverty" was launched here on Wednesday (Sept 4).

More than 150 officials, media representatives, think tank members, and other representatives from China and Laos attended the launching ceremony and a subsequent seminar on state governance.

Attendees believed that the book is an important document that records Xi's profound thoughts on poverty alleviation, economic development, local governance, improving work style, and enhancing governance capabilities.

It reflects Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially the origin and practical exploration of the concept of "targeted poverty alleviation," which offers inspiration transcending time and space, they said, noting that the party, the government, and the people of Laos also highly value this book.

Attendees highlighted that China's remarkable achievements in poverty reduction and development serve as a great example, with the concept of "targeted poverty alleviation" taking root and bearing fruits in many developing countries, including Laos.

In recent years, they noted, fruitful results have been achieved in the building of a community with a shared future between China and Laos.

The joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative has been actively synergising with Laos' goal of converting itself from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub, major projects such as the China-Laos Railway have provided strong impetus for the construction of the China-Laos economic corridor, while cultural, tourism, and educational exchanges continue to deepen, enhancing mutual understanding between the two peoples, they said.

The publication of the Lao edition of "Up and Out of Poverty," they noted, will write a new chapter and mark a new height for China-Laos friendship.

Attendees believed that the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is of landmark significance to China and the world at large, as it has scientifically laid out a grand new blueprint for China to further deepen reform comprehensively and advance Chinese modernisation, and bring new confidence, momentum, and opportunities to the world.

From getting rid of poverty to national rejuvenation, the Chinese modernization path has created a new model for human progress, providing developing countries with enriched and expanded pathways to modernisation, they said.

The event was jointly organised by China's State Council Information Office, the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and the Chinese Embassy in Laos.

The Lao edition of "Up and Out of Poverty" was translated and published collaboratively by Chinese and Lao publishing houses.

Prior to this, the book was published in English, French, Spanish, Cyrillic Mongolian, Hausa, Swahili and Uzbek. - Xinhua
