Nine devotees electrocuted to death in India's Bihar state

NEW DELHI: At least nine Hindu devotees were electrocuted to death when their vehicle came into contact with an overhead high-tension wire in the eastern Indian state of Bihar.

Two pilgrims were also injured in the incident, which occurred in the Vaishali district on Sunday night, according to local media reports on Monday.

The group was on their way to a temple to perform a water ritual.

They were participating in the 'Kanwar Yatra', an annual pilgrimage to the Ganges River during the Hindu lunar month of Shravan.

The pilgrims, known as Kanwariyas, carry sacred water from the river in pots on their shoulders to their temples in towns and villages. - Bernama
