Thai PM to meet Grand Imam of Al-Azhar in honour of 70 years of diplomatic ties


BANGKOK: Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin (pic) is scheduled to meet with the Grand Imam Sheikh Al-Azhar of Egypt, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed El-Tayeb, on Monday (July 8) during the latter’s official visit here to mark the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries this year.

Government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke said El-Tayeb is on an official visit to Thailand from July 5-8 as the guest of the Thai government.

"During the official visit, the Egyptian Grand Imam of Al-Azhar will have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister on July 8, 2024, at the Government House, and meet with the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, and the House Speaker," he said in a statement here on Friday.

Chai said the official visit of the Egyptian Grand Imam of al-Azhar will be an important opportunity for the two countries to strengthen relations and cooperation, particularly in cultural, education, and religious dimensions, and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations.
