Laos builds new museum to boost tourist

VIENTIANE (Bernama-Xinhua): Laos is building the largest museum in the country, which will bring together 10,000 rare wood products, artworks and ancient artifacts, which is expected to become an interesting tourist attraction for both domestic and foreign tourists.

The construction of the Vientiane Museum of Contemporary Arts is expected to be finished in 2024, with the hope that it will become a new and important tourist spot in the Lao capital, Lao National Radio reported on Sunday.

The Vientiane Museum of Contemporary Arts is located Sivilay Village, Xaythany District, near the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum, open from Monday to Friday.

The construction started in 2021 and the project has a budget of more than US$50 million.

The museum will cover an area of 80 hectares to create a cultural, artistic and natural tourism resource.

Exhibits at the museum include over 850 artifacts from the nation’s heritage, culture, and history, including some ancient pieces.

Some of these include fossils, stone tools, human skeletons, stone images of Buddha, pottery and bronzeware, and items typical of Lao ethnic lifestyles.

It will include a building presenting information about the entire complex, a reception building, an art and culture exhibition building that can host festivals, a sightseeing hall, a multi-purpose building, and a building to display wood carvings and paintings. - Bernama-Xinhua
