A night of nostalgia for a good cause and to help poor Tamil school children


KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Santhanam Thevarajah Rathnam is a man on mission. And at the same time he wants those who will help the poor to have a good time too.

The well-travelled musician from Malaysia who has performed in many countries and with 35 years of experience of performing in and out of the country, including those in South East-Asia, will be conducting a concert on July 8 in Kuala Lumpur to raise funds for the poor.

The July 8 - Sam Santhana Katre 2.0 concert will be held at the Tan Sri Soma Auditorium, Kuala Lumpur. The three hour live musical nite with songs from the 70’s and 80’s is organized by Yayasan Suara Rakyat Malaysia. Dr Santhanam is also the President for the organisation.

A musician (bassist) with 35 years experience in the music industry and Dr Santhanam has performed with almost all Tamil music bands in Malaysia as well as performed in radio, tv(RTM), astro events and numerous private shows.

The purpose of the event is to raise funds to support hearing operation costs of Ms.Nithiya Priya Anandan (24 yrs old) as well as for supporting education of poor Tamil school children.

There will be a seven-man live band consisting of all Malaysian Tamil musicians, led by T.Retnakumar (keyboard), S.Nallathambie (keyboard), S.Arumugam (tabla), Sai Kesavan (flute), Maniam (lead guitar), Aaru (bass guitar) and Ramu (percussion).

Singers for the event are Ashok (astro), TMS Chitran, Sritharan (astro), Puganeswary (astro), Suguna (astro), Vasantha and Babu Loganathan. There is also a special appearance performance by Appu Krishnadass on the accordion.

All the singers like Dr Santhanam have performed in many shows over the years in and out of the country.

"This concert is for a good cause and all income will be used by the association for the good of poor children. Many Tamil students are very talented in the music industry and we would like to see them excel internationally too," said Dr Santhanam.

"For the record, many of our Tamil musicians in Malaysia have done very well in international events and many have also made their mark in the Tamil Movies Industry in India."
