Vietnam's trade surplus reaches US$8.4bil in 4 months

HANOI: Vietnam saw a trade surplus of US$8.4 billion in the first four months of this year, according to latest data released by the General Statistics Office.

The office reported that during the cited period, the total import-export turnover of goods hit $238.88 billion, up 15.2 per cent year on year, with exports surging by 15 per cent and imports increasing by 15.4 per cent.

Five items, including electronics, computers and components, telephones, textiles, garments, and footwear, recorded an export turnover of over $5 billion, accounting for 57.8 per cent of the total.

China was Vietnam's largest import market for the cited period with a turnover estimated at $41.6 billion, the report said.

The export revenue of Vietnam's industrial processing sector reached 108.27 billion dollars in the four months, accounting for 87.5 per cent of the total, according to the report. - Xinhua
