YANGON (Xinhua): Twelve people were injured in bomb blasts during the Thingyan water festival in central Myanmar's Mandalay on Sunday, the Information Team of Myanmar's State Administration Council said.
The incident occurred at around 10:25 a.m. local time (0355 GMT) on Sunday when two improvised explosive devices exploded at a motorcycle parking area near the Mandalay mayor's pandal in Mandalay, the information team said.
The information team added that the attack was carried out by the People's Defence Force, and the injured included five children.
The injured were transported to Mandalay General Hospital for medical treatment, it said.
Operations are underway to locate the perpetrators, the information team said.
Earlier, AFP had reported that four people were killed in eastern Myanmar on Thursday after a series of car bombs exploded at a pagoda where a crowd had gathered to mark the start of the Buddhist New Year, a rescue worker and a security source said.
The country has been in turmoil since a 2021 coup, with the army and anti-junta fighters frequently clashing.
