Over four kilos of heroin seized in eastern Myanmar

YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar authorities have seized 4.4kg of heroin in the country's eastern Shan state, according to a statement from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Monday.

Acting on a tipoff, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle near a tollgate in Nawnghkio township of northern Shan state on Saturday and confiscated the drugs along with four mobile phones, the statement said.

The seized drugs had a street value of 66 million kyats (US$31,428), the committee said.

Two suspects were arrested for the case and charged under the Southeast Asian country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigations were underway, it added. - Xinhua
