Hongkongers told to seek shelter as city braces for widespread heavy rain and intense winds on Saturday


HONG KONG: Hong Kong should brace for widespread heavy rain and intense gusts on Saturday afternoon, the city’s forecaster warned, and appealed to the public to seek shelter and stay alert for shifts in weather.

The Observatory issued thunderstorm and strong monsoon warnings in the morning as a trough of low pressure brought showers and thunderstorms to Guangdong.

The forecaster also said the city would start to cool down over the next few days, accompanied by a few showers.

“Under the influence of a fresh easterly airstream, temperatures will fall slightly over the coastal areas of Guangdong midweek next week,” it added.

The latest nine-day forecast shows temperatures are expected to vary between 23 and 31 degrees Celsius (73.4 and 87.8 Fahrenheit) next week. - SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST
