69-year-old Phnom Penh madam detained for running underage prostitution racket


PHNOM PENH: A woman who specialised in procuring country girls under the age of 18 for clients in Phnom Penh guesthouses – has been detained by a court order, reports Khmer Times.

On Thursday (April 4), the Investigating Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, Chhay Vivatanak, issued a detention order for a 69-year-old housewife, Sok Kimheng, to be temporarily detained at Phnom Penh Capital Prison to wait for the sentencing hearing according to the crime committed by the suspect.

Sok had been arrested on March 30th by the specialised police force of Phnom Penh Anti-Human Trafficking and Protection of Minors Office in cooperation with Khan 7 Makara Unity Command.

Nine young girls were freed in the raid on 320 E1z, Street 128, Kampuchea Krom Blvd., Village 3, Sangkat Mittapheap, Khan 7 Makara, Phnom Penh, with Phnom Penh Municipal Police saying that nine of the 11 women were minors under the age of 18.

After questioning the women, the victims explained that Sok Kimheng, a 69-year-old woman, led them to sleep with guests at a guesthouse in Phnom Penh.

According to the police, most of the young women were brought from Svay Rieng province and some had even sold their virginity to wealthy guests for sums including US$5,000, US1,000, US$500, US$400 and down to US$200.

After questioning Sok, the cops said that she admitted that he had taken the girls to a guesthouse in Phnom Penh.
