Prabowo to be inaugurated in new capital Nusantara

JAKARTA: The inauguration ceremony of the President of Indonesia is planned to take place in the new national capital, Nusantara (IKN), in East Kalimantan, according to Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono.

"The presidential inauguration, God willing, will be held there (IKN), according to the plan," he said at the Parliament Complex on Tuesday as reported by detikNews news portal.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) on March 20 announced Prabowo Subianto (pic) and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the official winners of the presidential and vice-presidential elections for the 2024-2029 term.

Based on the KPU Regulation regarding the stages and schedule of the General Election, the presidential and vice-presidential swearing-in ceremony will be held on Oct 20.

President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is reported to be moving from the Presidential Palace in Jakarta to the new office in IKN in July after the completion of the airport and highway construction. He will conclude his final term this October.

The construction of the Presidential Palace and the ceremonial grounds is currently at 60 per cent completion, as reported by Danis Sumadilaga, Head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force.

The ceremonial grounds located in front of the Presidential Palace will be fully ready by June and will be able to accommodate over 6,000 guests for the celebration commemorating the 79th Independence Day on Aug 17. - Bernama
