HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnam reaped nearly US$2 billion from exporting seafood products in the first quarter of this year, increasing over 8 percent year on year, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday, citing the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.

Shrimp exports were estimated at over 690 million dollars during the January-March period, up 24 percent year on year.

Tra fish exports hit nearly 424 million dollars, increasing 0.4 percent year on year while tuna exports' revenue hit over 220 million dollars, a surge of 22.2 percent year on year, said the association.

Le Hang, the association's communication director, said the United States, Japan and China were the three biggest importers of Vietnamese seafood products for the cited period.

Exports of lobsters and crabs to China recorded growth rates at 11 times and seven times year on year, respectively, the association official added.

Vietnam's seafood exports are forecast to reach the 9.5 billion dollars mark in 2024, local media reported. - Xinhua
