Brunei man jailed for theft, spitting on policeman


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Pengiran Abdul Azim Abdul Azis on Saturday (March 23) was sentenced to three years and four months’ jail after pleading guilty to theft-related charges and for spitting on a policeman while in custody.

Judge Pengiran Norismayanti Ismail heard that the defendant had stolen five car rims from a house in Jalan Pasir Berakas in September 2023.

The defendant also attempted to steal belongings from a car parked at Flat E-Kerajaan in Kampong Beribi on Nov 18, 2019. On May 16, 2023 the defendant stole a CCTV camera from a hallway in Flat E-Kerajaan, Kampong Beribi.

It was sometime between Aug 31 and Sept 2, 2023 when the defendant stole items from a house at Perumahan Expo, Perpindahan Lambak Kanan.

While in lock-up at the Bandar Seri Begawan Police Station at 4.30pm on Sept 21, 2023, the defendant spat on the face of a police constable.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Hidayatul Aeny Zullizam also revealed that all the theft-related incidents were reported by the victims, whose investigations led to the arrest.

While in custody, the defendant, knocked on the cell room door loudly, and asked to see an investigating officer over headache and stomachache.

The police constable standing guard told the defendant to wait patiently as he had passed the request to the investigating officer.

Later, the defendant repeated the knocking, resulting in an argument between the defendant and the police constable.
