BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Asean member states including Brunei have developed 12 recommendations for regulating the marketing of food and non-alcoholic beverages to protect the future generation.
Brunei participated in the virtual launch of the ‘Minimum Standards and Guidelines on Actions to Protect Children from the Harmful Impact of Marketing Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages in the Asean Region’ recently.
It was organised by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health as the lead country of the project and co-lead by the Philippines and Singapore with support from United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef), World Health Organization (WHO) and Alive & Thrive.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar in a video message showed his full support for the implementation of the document to protect children from the exposure to the marketing of unhealthy foods and non-alcoholic beverages in the region.
He also supported the efforts to create food environments to ensure that children in Asean have healthier dietary choices.
Senior Medical Officer from Health Promotion Centre (HPC) at the Ministry of Health Dr Norol-Ehsan Abdul Hamid, Acting Head of HPC Dr Ernina Nisdzarinah Abdul Rani and Control Committee members of Code on Responsible Marketing of Foods and Beverages to Children in Brunei Darussalam (CORM) represented Brunei in the meeting. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
