Fines, warnings for businesses violating Price Control Act

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy found five businesses violating offences under Chapter 142 of the Price Control Act during a month joint inspection between JPES and Department of Consumer Affairs with the Weights and Measure Unit (SDT).

The operation dubbed Operasi Sepadu saw JPES issuing fines to the business premises for failing to comply with the Act.

A retail shop in Tutong District was fined BND500 for selling cooking oil above the maximum price, while another retail shop was also fined BND500 for failing to display prices on some of the items found in the business premises.

SDT officers also found 20 units of weighing machines used for trading purposes. All weighing machines were found to be verified, accurate and registered in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act 1983 Chapter 151 and Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994 Chapter 3 (1) and (2).

The department reminded businesses of their roles in upholding a conducive business environment by conducting their business ethically to enhance consumer confidence, by complying with the Price Control Act and the Weights and Measures Act. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
