Two months jail for duo who stole from shopper's cart

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Two local women were sentenced to a two-month jail term on Monday (March 18) after they pleaded guilty to misappropriating property.

Prosecutor Abdul Musawwir Mahli revealed that Zulleynah Jalil/Mohammad, 46, and Haslinda Moksin, 49, went to a supermarket in Tutong Central Mall in the morning of Feb 28 where they saw a shopper with his bag left on a shopping cart while loading his purchases onto his car.

The defendants took the bag to a beach where they examined its contents. They found two mobile phones and BND530 in cash. They threw away the phones, kept the cash and burned the bag.

The victim only realised that his bag was missing when he was at another supermarket. He filed a police report, leading to the duo’s arrest. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
