Cambodian PM to attend Asean-Australia special summit in Melbourne


PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will attend the Asean-Australia Special Summit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia dialogue relations in Australia's Melbourne on March 4-6, said a foreign ministry press release on Friday.

His attendance will be made at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the news release said.

"The special summit is an opportune moment for leaders to chart future directions together and further deepen relations through full and effective implementation of key priorities under the Asean-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership," the news release said.

"Leaders are scheduled to adopt the Melbourne declaration and the Aseam-Australia leaders' vision statement," it added.

On the sidelines of the summit, Hun Manet will have bilateral talks with Albanese and several Asean country leaders to further strengthen bilateral relations, according to the news release.

The Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. - Xinhua
