JAKARTA: After exercising their democratic right at the polling station, voters across Indonesia are seeking discounts at restaurants and shops targeted at those who have cast their votes.
Food and beverage establishments across the country provide promos and discounts for their products to encourage eligible voters to go to the polls, while also drawing in customers.
Voters can get these discounts by showing their ink-dipped pinky finger as a sign that they have voted.
Pamulang resident Raissa, 24, in South Tangerang, Banten, said discounted snacks are a must.
“I’m craving for some [Taiwan chicken food chain] Shihlin right now, but I could only get the promo by using a certain debit card,” she told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday (Feb 14), eager to look for other food discounts.
In West Jakarta, a resident of Kebon Jeruk named Desvita bought discounted coffee at the local coffee chain Fore straight after voting in the morning.
