VIENTIANE: The Lao government will strive to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, and rise above Least Developed Country status as planned in 2026, said a senior government official.

"We will continue to implement the ninth five-year National Socio-economic Development Plan for 2024, and the national agendas, in order to meet the targets endorsed by the National Assembly," the Lao Economic Daily reported Thursday (Feb 15), citing Lao Minister of Planning and Investment Khamjane Vongphosy.

The minister told a press conference recently that in order to meet these targets, the government would focus on the development of human resources to achieve higher standards, more strictly regulate aspects of economic and social development, and reduce disparities in development between urban and rural areas.

The Lao government will also strive to eliminate violence against women and children, reduce poverty, and build competitiveness of the domestic business sector by creating a more favorable business environment.

More will be done to apply appropriate financial strategies to support successful implementation of the National Socio-economic Development Plan and ensure the success of an economic recovery framework in achieving the set goals. - Xinhua
