BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Grassroots leaders and members of Belait District’s village and mukim consultative councils learnt more about crocodile behaviours during a briefing and dialogue session organised by the Wildlife Division (BHL) at the Forestry Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.

They also learnt the action to be taken during human-crocodile encounters at the programme at the Kuala Belait Municipal Hall on Wednesday (Feb 7).

Head of BHL Mohammad Dinnie Mahadi in his presentation on the division’s role, spoke about two common species of crocodile – False Gharial and Saltwater Crocodile – commonly referred to as Buaya Jejulong and Buaya Air Masin.

He discussed on ways to reduce conflict between crocodiles and humans as well as proper procedures to follow when encountering a crocodile.

Representatives from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Royal Brunei Police Force spoke about the roles of the action team formed with the BHL in April 2018.

The event saw an exhibition of equipment used to capture crocodiles and photos of the captured reptiles.
